I’m Dr. Jennifer Litner and I’m a certified sex therapist and a human sexuality educator. As an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and Supervisor, I have completed the clinical training and supervision necessary to specialize in the clinical treatment of sexual dysfunction and sexuality-related concerns.
Dr. Litner’s Approach to Sex Therapy + Relationship Therapy
Dr. Jennifer Litner has over a decade of experience working, studying and teaching in the field of sexual health, with a specialization in sex therapy, sexuality education and helping people thrive in their intimate relationships.
Dr. Litner is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and sexuality educator whose passion is helping couples, individuals and families navigate sexual concerns. Dr. Litner is a clinical fellow and an approved supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, a certified member and supervisor of the American Association for Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists, and a member of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research. Dr. Litner earned a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from Northwestern University where she received clinical training and supervision from senior staff clinicians, integrating systemic theories with current therapy models in Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally-Focused Therapy. Dr. Litner also holds a master of education and a doctorate of philosophy in human sexuality studies at Widener University with emphasis in human sexuality education. Dr. Litner’s clinical interests include sexual functioning and satisfaction, desire discrepancy, anxiety about sex and performance, loss of intimacy, pain during sex and navigating the transition to parenthood.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Litner is a Clinical Lecturer at The Family Institute at Northwestern University and has contributed to several publications including The Encyclopedia for Couple and Family Therapy and The Professional’s Guide to Sexuality Consultation. As a sexuality educator, Dr. Litner aims to empower individuals to make healthy choices about sexuality and relationships by providing them with scientifically accurate sexual health information. Dr. Litner offers educational programs globally on various sexuality-related topics such as Keeping the Flame Alive in Long Term Relationships, Female Sexual Empowerment, Navigating Healthy Relationships During the Teenage Years, Parenting and Sexuality, and Sex-Positive Practices for Healthcare Professionals. She is also the author of Building Ease Talking About the Birds and the Bees®, a curriculum and digital course for parents and caregivers who want to learn how to teach the young people in their lives about sex, gender, bodies, consent, media, boundaries, and relationships.
Before establishing Embrace Sexual Wellness, Dr. Litner worked as an associate therapist in private practice specializing in the treatment of sexual concerns. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist and sexuality educator, Dr. Litner worked as a Certified Peer Health Educator where she organized and lead programs on mental health, nutrition, safer sex, and stress management at a university wellness center. In addition to her role as an educator, Dr. Litner was trained as a post-test counselor, administering free HIV testing and family planning counseling to university students on a weekly basis. Dr. Litner also completed an internship in global education and civic engagement where she educated residents about safer sex practices and prevention of HIV in at-risk communities near Cape Town, South Africa.
